Graduate Student Tour
On September 5, 2013 a group of students from the Architectural Association Design Research Lab graduate program in London came to DesignworksUSA's studio in Southern CA. Their visit included a studio tour with an emphasis on how to create and maintain innovation within an organization.
Future of Mobility Event
Alec Bernstein presents at GACC event
On August 13, 2013, Alec Bernstein, Global Director of Creative Consulting, presented DesignworksUSA's perspective on the future of mobility at an event sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce. The event provided attendees the opportunity to reflect on German Design and gain insights into the future of mobility. It was held at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Convergence of Transportation and Technology Panel
Laurenz Schaffer, DesignworksUSA President, participated on the Convergence of Transportation and Technology panel at the DMI Conference at the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica. He was joined by Javier Verdura from Tesla with Michael Westcott, DMI President, as the moderator. Laurenz and Javier engaged in a fruitful discussion covering a wide range of key topics such as describing their respective business model; risk taking in design as well as the role of creativity in defining the future passenger experience.
BMW Creative Lab
Springboard for the Next Generation
Together with BMW Italy, DesignworksUSA has initiated a platform for the next generation of designers: the BMW Creative Lab. It is implemented with an annually changing Italian corporate partner. This year it was Fratelli Guzzini and aims at supporting young design students who are about to join the workforce by enabling them to gather industry know-how. Set up as a contest to create a friendly competition between the students, the participants were given a challenging design task in November 2012, which they had to work on over a period of eight months.

A + D Museum Celebrate 2013
Walk on Air Creation
To celebrate the artistic journey, DesignworksUSA created a carry-on piece for A + D Museum's Celebrate 2013 fundraising gala that was inspired by a theme of “walk on air”. It is a non-functional art piece depicting an optimistic, dream-like vision of the future of travel. The blue balloon represents and carries the joys of childhood such as blowing bubbles, candy, and rose colored glasses. The white balloon lights up and represents an active mind carrying bright ideas. Lastly, the clear balloon with a paper scroll or ribbon carries the collection of life experiences and memories.

Design team speaks about architecture and automotive design
Three members of our design team, Nick Gronenthal, John Buckingham, and Sandy McGill, shared design insights at the “Experience Mid Century Modern Salon #1: Lautner: Sheats/Goldstein Residence” event sponsored by BMW, A + D Museum, and Angeleno Magazine.
